One downside to a High Protein Diet?

One downside to a High Protein Diet?

The latest trend in dieting is now a high protein diet, and for good reason.  Protein is an essential element of the human body.  Without protein our bodies would quickly deteriorate and melt from the inside out.   Amino acids are not only used to rebuild our muscles, but also used in countless processes involving digestion, enzymes, detoxification, and healthy aging.  It is imperative to life that we consume protein; however, not all protein is created equal.  What do I mean by this?

Well, for starters, let’s think about why pregnant women are not supposed to consume unnecessary prescription drugs, recreational drugs, smoke cigarettes or consume alcohol. The obvious reason is that whatever Mom puts in her body will be passed on to the baby.  Just like it is generally not recommended for us to eat bottom-feeding fresh water fish & some types of rodents. Why? The garbage they eat will have an effect on us when we eat them.

That being said, we must remember where we get our protein from.  The most obvious source is meat. Unfortunately, the vast majority of meat produced in America is actually considered toxic and poisonous by European standards. How can this be?
Big Farms Manure vreba-hoff medinaAmerican produced meat starts off as hundreds or even thousands of tightly packed animals in a large building.  Packed like sardines, the cattle or chickens spend most of their lives standing in feces with only inches to move.  What happens to people when they live in crowded, unsanitary conditions? Disease spreads rampantly.  The same would be true in this case if it were not for the use of extreme antibiotics, steroids, hormones and dangerous medications.  Many of these additives are illegal for use in Europe because of the toxic effect they have on humans and the livestock. The ban dates back to 1988, based on concerns about the addition of six hormones to more than 90% of American beef.

Not only are they deprived of sunshine, fresh air and movement but also their natural diet.  These foraging animals traditionally graze for their food and consume a variety of nutrients in their natural diet. This variety of organic nutrients builds healthier animals and animal products like eggs and dairy.  However, in captivity these animals are fed the most inexpensive feeds as possible. Often, these feeds consist of mostly genetically modified soy and/ or corn, two things that they would probably never eat in nature.  Once butchered, the meat is chemically treated again and again.Combine the living quarters, nutrient-free diet, and chronic use of medications…and you can see how this recipe would not make a healthy choice of meat for consumption.  It is best to avoid this profit-over-life monopoly, always look for certified organic, grass fed, pasture free beef and chicken.

A new view on autism support

A new view on autism support

Over the past decade, the diagnosis of autism is rising rapidly. The latest statistics show that one in every 50 children has some form of autism. Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects social interaction, communication and imagination. Even though the exact cause of this disease is unknown, many link it to genetics; however environmental factors and hormonal imbalances may also be involved. There is a wide range of types of autism, from severe disability to a mild problem with interaction with others.

If you are a parent or family member of an autistic child, you know how exhausting it can be running your child to multiple doctor appointments, getting multiple opinions that are ending with disappointments. I’m here to tell you, there is hope. It is time to take your child’s health and well-being into your own hands. There are several alternative health care options available to you but the most beneficial one is bringing your child to a chiropractor. The newest research is revealing that there is a relationship between abnormalities in the spine, the nervous system, and the brain. Dr. Nicholas Marini, DC, PH.D.  Microbiologist, Chiropractor states “basic science research shows that the proper development of the brain relies heavily on proper structure and movement of the spine from an early age.”

A chiropractor is the only Doctor/Profession that deals specifically with the brain and spinal cord communication, known as the Central Nervous System. The brain is the main communication hub, which sends signals down the spine and out tiny nerves to communicate to your organs, tissues, and cells. When there are misalignments or abnormal movement in the spine, the amount of communication getting to its source is diminished. Neurobehavioral disorders such as autism is related to how the entire body communicates with the brain and the most critical area for this is the spine. The goal of the chiropractor for an autistic child is to perform gentle adjustments to help realign the spine and take stress off the nervous system. The adjustment does not cure autism; in fact they don’t cure anything. They allow the body to function at its most optimal level, without nerve interference. This allows the body to work at its full potential and improve the quality of life within you.

Chiropractic care is an extremely effective treatment option for the autistic. When combined with a healthy diet and the right supplementation of vitamins, the results are often surprising. Chiropractic is a safe and comfortable method for everyone.

Migraines and the Chiropractic Cure

In my practice as a chiropractor, the rate of new patients calling for appointments because of “migraine headaches” is at an all-time high.  Once relegated to middle-aged women, more and more males are being affected by this very painful and debilitating problem. The impact of migraines on the nation’s economy is dramatic, with studies indicating that billions of potential earnings are lost annually due to workdays lost to migraine episodes.  With a growing list of medications, natural supplements, exercises and new diets to deal with migraines, the question must be asked: Are the products and methods really making a difference?
The answer is no. How come? These other methods are not getting to the root of the problem, and that is where the Chiropractor comes into play.

Chiropractors can address the cause of migraines.  Chiropractic is the study of the central nervous system as it relates to the alignment of the spine. Spinal misalignments create interference to the communication of the central nervous system. By correcting these misalignments, called subluxations in the chiropractic profession, normal central nervous system function and communication can be restored, allowing for the body’s innate healing potential to function properly.  Every other treatment addresses the symptoms, not the cause and that’s why there is such a growing increase in people suffering with migraines.

According to the Mayo Clinic, migraines may be caused by “changes in the brainstem and its interactions with the trigeminal nerve, a major pain pathway.”
Misalignments in the spine will alter the shape of the canal that the brain stem and spinal cord occupy. These misalignments inhibit the communication between the brain and body, causing the debilitating symptoms of a migraine.

Environmental forces such as stress, foods, physical factors, etc. magnify the deficiencies within a hindered system, which is why changing environmental factors will ease the symptoms but not correct the problem, allowing for frequent re-occurrences.

A 2011 case study published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine reported a woman in her 50’s who had been suffering from regular moderate to severe migraines for more than 40 years. Her migraines were accompanied by auras, meaning they came with nausea, photophobia, and visual disturbances. With regular chiropractic adjustments over three months, and no other method of care, her migraines were resolved, the authors said.  The woman reported that no other lifestyle changes were made. Six months later, the study said, the patient reported no migraine headaches since receiving chiropractic care.
This is one of many case studies proving that chiropractic is an effective method for correcting the cause of migraines. When the cause is addressed and corrected properly the symptoms will dissipate. True health comes from inside out, not outside in.
